Privacy Policy

Overview
Collaboration Tracker (formerly "Docs Revision Viewer," referred to herein as "the Extension") is a browser extension and associated web service designed to fetch and display revision and contribution history from Google Docs. We take your privacy seriously. This policy describes what data the Extension uses, how it is processed, and where it goes.
Google API Services User Data Policy (Limited Use Disclosure)
Crucial Notice: Collaboration Tracker's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Data We Access and Why We Need It
To provide our service, Collaboration Tracker requires you to log in using your Google Account. By using Google Login, and to function correctly, the Extension requests the following Google OAuth scopes:
- User Authentication (email, profile, openid): When you log in, we access your basic Google profile information (such as your name and email address) to authenticate your identity and manage your session securely.
- https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.readonly: Required to verify your access permissions, read document metadata (like Document ID and title), and ensure you are authorized to view the file.
- https://www.googleapis.com/auth/documents.readonly: Required to fetch the actual content of the document, the revision history, and contribution data (who made changes, when, and what text was added or removed).
When you use the Extension, we also access collaborator information provided by Google (e.g., names and email addresses of editors) exactly as returned by the Google Docs APIs.
Data Storage, Retention, and Deletion
We do not store your Google Drive or Google Docs data on our servers.
Document content, revision history, and collaborator emails exist only in your browser's memory during your active session. They are temporarily passed to your configured viewer application (e.g., localhost or our hosted viewer at collaborationtracker.com) solely for the purpose of rendering the data on your screen.
The Extension uses local Chrome storage (sync) only to save your user preferences:
- Whether auto-fetch is enabled
- Auto-fetch interval (in minutes)
- Viewer application URL destination
Once you close the viewer or end your session, the fetched document data is cleared from memory. You can delete your saved preferences at any time by uninstalling the Extension.
Account Data: Your Google login information (email and basic profile data) is used strictly for active session authentication and is not stored in any external database by Collaboration Tracker.
Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information or Google user data to outside parties. Data is passed strictly between your browser and the specific viewer URL you have configured. We do not use your data for advertising, analytics, or training AI models.
Permissions Required by the Extension
The Extension requires the following browser permissions to function:
- storage – to save your settings locally.
- scripting and activeTab / tabs – to execute on Google Docs tabs and communicate with the viewer tab.
- alarms – to run auto-fetch on a schedule when enabled by you.
- Host access – for https://docs.google.com/* (to read revision data) and for your configured viewer app URL.
Your Responsibilities
You are responsible for ensuring that your use of the Extension complies with your organization’s policies, Google’s Terms of Service, and any applicable data protection laws. Only use the Extension on documents you are legally and officially authorized to access.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or Google's requirements. The "Last updated" date at the top will be revised accordingly. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
